Abstrak
The emergence of new political parties in post-reform Indonesia has significantly changed the dynamics of democratic competition, with the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) standing out as an important actor despite being a relatively newly established party in 2008.This article examines in depth the birth process and growth dynamics of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) as well as tracing the contribution and impact of its political power in the contestation of the 2019 Indonesian Presidential Election. This study applies a qualitative perspective in the realm of history and politics with data collection techniques through literature review, review of official archives of organizations, election regulations, national press reports, and various relevant academic publications. The theoretical frameworks used include institutional theory of political parties, theory of charismatic leadership, and theory of electoral coalition. The results of the study show that Gerindra as a relatively new political party has been able to develop rapidly through strengthening its organizational structure, centrality of leadership figures, and adaptive electoral coalition strategies. In the context of the 2019 presidential election, Gerindra played a significant role in forming political opposition and influencing the dynamics of democratic competition in Indonesia. These findings enrich the study of the role of opposition parties and charismatic leadership in Indonesia\'s electoral democracy.
